			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Stress has become an inevitable consequence of modern everyday life, and as we are subjected to increasing amounts of it, we experience more and more of the effects of the great rate of wear and tear we subject our bodies to. The term was originally coined by Hans Selye in 1936, and defined by him as &#8220;the non-specific response of the body to any demand for change.&#8221; This means that we are all subjected to stress, but its effects on our bodies differ greatly from person to person, largely dependent on the gravity of and how we handle the stressful situation. It manifests itself in any number of physical or psychological symptoms that are often ignored until it seriously affects our health. In fact, stress is currently one of the leading causes of illness worldwide, such as depression, erectile dysfunction, hypertension and heart disease. This increasing number of stress-related illnesses has raised alarm bells throughout the worldwide medical community. Stress can stem from both positive and negative experiences in our lives. Positive stressors, or eustress, are situations that are perceived to be happy or good, such as weddings, childbirth or big family holidays. Negative stressors, or distress, are situations that are traumatizing or unhappy, such as the death of a loved one or an accident. Pregnancy can be considered both a positive and negative stressor, being a time of great joy and adjustment for the expectant mother as she and her partner welcome the new addition to their family. Apart from the actual physical stress the woman&#8217;s body is subjected to during the nine months of pregnancy, the pressures of daily life are also there to put additional stress on her. Some women have to juggle the demands of their job, chores, and families along with being pregnant. In some cases, pregnant women face unhealthy situations as the break-up of their marriage, physical or emotional abuse, open infidelity or simply disinterested and uninvolved partners who prefer staying out to staying home and supporting their pregnant partners, and they experience constant stress throughout the nine month period or beyond. Extreme situations can also leave the unborn baby vulnerable to the stress the mother feels, such as malnutrition or exposure to toxins because of an unhealthy or unsanitary living conditions. Stress can have adverse effects on the unborn child, and can sometimes be the cause of birth defects, miscarriages, pre-term delivery, or result in the death of both mother and child. Cortisol, the body&#8217;s stress hormone, can be too much for the bodies of both the mother and child to handle, may possibly cause high blood pressure problems. In the mother, this may increase her risk for preeclampsia, or any number of other conditions that may complicate her pregnancy. In the unborn child, the effects can range from a lifetime of high blood pressure or other physical, mental or developmental defects. Whatever is going on in a woman&#8217;s life during her pregnancy, the most important thing she should remember is that she must take care of her body and safeguard the life of her child. Whether the situation is positive or negative, how she deals with the stress is entirely in her hands.</p>

No wonder, the preparation and marketing of diet and fitness programs have become a billion-dollar industry. But perhaps there is no other group of people that is more concerned about weight loss than those in the entertainment industry. In a job where a few extra pounds can cause an actor to lose a movie role, the use of weight loss programs and other fitness fads has become a necessity. In fact, being on a diet is already a given for actors in Hollywood. For her role in the movie, Tomb Raider, Angelina Jolie went on a diet of steamed meat, vegetables and soya milk. She revealed that prior to making the movie, she did not normally eat breakfast but just smoked cigarettes and drank a lot of coffee. Jolie also said that she stopped using sugar on any of the food she consumed. Madonna, on the other hand, has kept her figure by engaging regularly in yoga and by following a macrobiotic diet that consisted of whole grains, beans, vegetables, and all-natural sweeteners such as rice syrup, barley malt, and maple syrup. Jessica Alba, the famous star from the t.v. series, Dark Angel, may be the earliest dieter in Hollywood. Starting when she was 12 years old, Jessica Alba says that her breakfast consisted only of egg whites and fruits. She added that she usually ate salad for lunch and vegetables or chicken for dinner. Unlike her fellow female artists, Jennifer Lopez eats a lot of junk food when she is not doing any movie or if she is not preparing for a music video. These artists get paid millions of dollars each year not only for their skills and talents in singing or acting. They also earn mega-bucks for product endorsements, magazine pictorials, and other business deals that involve the use of their pictures or images. The hair, face, and body of a Hollywood superstar are all quite literally the tools of the trade, or more appropriately, their investments. The better they look physically, the more movie or recording contracts they usually get. Of course, a little scandal here and the latest buzz there helps put them in showbiz headlines, too. But for the most part, their physical image is the commodity that is bought by an eager public that follows their every movie or song. Some fans even copy their movie idols hairstyle or way of dressing. That is why it should be no surprise why the icons of Hollywood spend large sums of money to look good via natural means such as exercise, or through artificial methods such as botox injections and face lifts. A lot of attention has been put into the so-called “celebrity diets” not only because these are supposed to be the “secrets” followed by the movie and music stars who are now in great physical shape. These diets have also been getting attention because not all of these diets are effective. The “Hollywood 48-Hour Miracle Diet” and other celebrity diets are usually low in carbohydrates and calories. Some are just simple methods to lose “body water” and do not really promote health and fitness. Still, many people buy into these “miracle programs” because they somehow believe that they can achieve the same results. But there are marked differences between how everyday people like you and me go on a diet compared to how the celebrities do it. There are also reasons why some of these celebrity diets do not work as well when used by non-celebrities. Celebrities have incentives to lose weight since their careers and their million-dollar contracts depend a great deal on their physical appearance, or at least, according to how Hollywood defines physical beauty. Regular people do not have the same budget for a fitness or diet program. Quite obviously, regular people are not paid a single cent to lose weight &#8212; maybe except for those people who join weight reduction contests on television. Celebrities often spend thousands of dollars to hire their own personal trainer, personal chef, nutritionist, and other support staff. These support staff monitor and motivate the celebrities to follow their fitness routines and diet plan. Regular people usually workout on their own or just receive a few instructions during the first few days at the gym. So then, what can non-celebrities do to lose those extra pounds? One good alternative is to visit a doctor and ask for information about the use of a weight loss pill. Aside from doing regular exercise and cutting down on fat and sugar, a serious weight watcher can get a prescription for a weight loss pill that helps reduce the absorption of fat in the intestines. Whenever we eat food with large amounts of fat or sugar, these are absorbed by the body through the intestines. People with irregular schedules or no exercise at all tend to retain the fat and sugars in their bodies. Having no opportunity to shed the excess fat, these people eventually gain weight by having no control over the amount and content of food they consume. A weight loss pill is usually taken after every meal and, thus, is very convenient to use. A common ingredient found in a weight loss diet pill is called Orlistat. Orlistat is usually sold under the brand name Xenical. Other preparations that offer the same effect are available in the market. However, the best weight loss pill is really a person&#8217;s motivation. No fitness fad or rapid weight loss pill will work if a weight watcher is not motivated enough to exercise daily and not disciplined enough follow a sensible eating plan. Indeed, not everybody was born to become a Hollywood superstar. But everyone can manage how and what they eat. Not all people have the opportunity to have a seven-figure salary or become famous around the world. But everyone can set aside time to exercise and keep one&#8217;s self fit. By keeping fit, we all can be stars in terms of our health.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the days are growing longer and overtime on outdoor job sites increase, there is no topic more pertinent than sun safety. If you are exposed, or have workers that are exposed it is essential that you are educated about the impact the sun can have on you and the ways that the different methods of protection, such as sunscreen products, can make a difference. As most people know, beyond the heat of the sun and having to deal with keeping cool in an outdoor work situation, there is additional influence that the rays are having on your body. In the simplest of terms, frequent exposure to damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays causes sun damage. UV is an invisible form of radiation emitted by the sun. There are two types of UV rays to be aware of, UVA and UVB. Although not completely understood at this time the role each play specifically in long term sun damage, it is believed that UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and are the major source of early aging and skin cancer and that UVB rays primarily access the surface of the skin and are the key source of sunburns. We are exposed to these rays everyday, regardless of whether there is cloud coverage or not. Some rays will even reach us through windows. That is why sunscreen products are recommended for use on a daily basis year-round and are simply a necessity for those who work outside. It is quite easy for outdoor workers, particularly in the construction field, to neglect any type of sun protection, let alone pursuing an aggressive sun-safety strategy because their lives literally are at risk on a daily basis from falls, electrical and other industry specific hazards which require their more immediate attention. Often not wanting to be bothered by having to apply sunscreen because of the time it takes or because they believe it to be the non-absorbent types of yesteryear, they are unaware that there are now fast absorbing sunscreen sprays and even sunscreen towelettes that make application complete in just moments – even in areas like behind the ears, the backs of hands, the neck and other spots not being protected by appropriate clothing or sun safety accessories such as sun flaps attached to hardhats. Basic rules of sunscreen use to follow are to be sure to use a wide spectrum sunscreen product that protects from UVA and UVB rays. It should be SPF 15 or higher. Apply 30-60 minutes prior to sun exposure, make sure all exposed areas are covered, and reapply approximately every 2 hours. Where at all possible, work in the shade or during the non-peak hours of exposure from 10am – 4pm. Although even sunscreen products will not completely block all of the sun’s harmful rays, by using it regularly in combination with sun protective clothing, outdoor workers should be able to minimize their risk of sun damage. Many employers are now providing an assortment of sunscreen products in single application packets or bulk sunscreen in wall dispensers in order to encourage workers to protect themselves in all ways possible. Education and awareness of the potential long term danger, beyond just the threat of uncomfortable sunburn today is also often all that is needed to encourage these protective measures.</p>

However, the average person with agoraphobia takes at least one full year to get diagnosed and even longer to learn enough about agoraphobia to start recovering. Here are four reasons why: 1) Most people don&#8217;t know what is wrong with them at first. The symptoms of agoraphobia, especially during panic attacks, feel like those of a physical illness. For example, when you are hyperventilating it is easy to suspect something is wrong with your lungs. When your heart is racing it is easy to think something is wrong with your heart. When you are sick at your stomach day after day it is easy to think something is wrong with your digestive system. Plus, one symptom of agoraphobia is to &#8220;scan&#8221; your body for physical symptoms and worry about every little twinge as if it may be a major life-threatening illness. 2) Many doctors don’t know how to diagnose agoraphobia. People with agoraphobia commonly visit a succession of doctors trying to find a diagnosis. Most doctors will listen to physical complaints and run tests. They will report that the tests are negative, but often fail to suggest the presence of agoraphobia due to a lack of training. Doctors who can tell that your symptoms are caused by a panic attack may still not be able to tell what type of anxiety disorder you have or provide information about it. 3) Most people go through a period of denial. If finally faced with a diagnosis of a psychological disorder like agoraphobia, the human reaction is to throw up defenses and deny it. Most of us don’t think of ourselves as the type of person who would have a &#8220;mental problem&#8221; or &#8220;psychological disorder.&#8221; Psychological problems carry a stigma in society that physical illnesses and injuries do not. The average person tends to consider a psychological disorder as personal weakness or lack of will power. People are more likely to treat a psychological disorder like agoraphobia as your fault than they would in the case of a physical illness or injury. If you were diagnosed with cancer, no one would stand over your bed during chemotherapy and question your will power, work ethic, or desire to go to work or school. But try having agoraphobia. People will do exactly that. Since no one wants to be viewed that way, it is hard for most people to admit to anyone they have agoraphobia. 4) Most people are reluctant to seek treatment for a psychological disorder because of the stigma. Even people who are able to admit to themselves that they have a psychological disorder might still have trouble admitting it to anyone else. It’s hard enough to try to explain irrational fear and panic attacks to your friends and family, and even harder to seek out professional help. A word to the wise &#8211; the best course of action to take if you start experiencing panic attacks or the symptoms of agoraphobia is: &#8211; See a doctor to rule out medical problems. &#8211; Consult a mental health professional to get a diagnosis and/or begin treatment. &#8211; Learn everything you can about your disorder. Knowledge is the first step to recovery and the sooner you get started on your recovery from agoraphobia the faster it will be. On the flip side, the longer it takes you to get diagnosed and admit that you have a disorder &#8211; the more agoraphobia has a chance to take root, and the more difficult your recovery may be. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Most smokers, when you ask them, will claim that even though they smoke everyday, they really do want to quit smoking. However, the number one reason some smokers don&#8217;t quit is because deep down inside, they really do not want to quit at all. Nicotine is an addictive drug, simple as that. And the body, once introduced to high amounts of it over a period of time, can&#8217;t seem to function without it. Quitting smoking is hard, but the truth of the matter is that if you go 48 hours without a cigarette, the nicotine in your body is then gone. After the first 48 hours, if a smoker wants another cigarette, it is possibly for reasons other than a nicotine addiction. So what could those reasons be? Well many people give the reason that smoking gives them energy. This can be why it is so hard to quit smoking. In a way, this is true, because smoking speeds your heart rate up. But that is like saying running from a bear is good for you because it keeps you in shape. Nicotine is a true stimulant, and it not only increases your heart rate, but also your blood pressure. It is like getting angry with someone, getting the same biological results. But a way to get these same addictive effects (in ways other than smoking, running from bears, or getting mad at someone,) a good nights sleep and plenty of exercise should do the trick. Drinking lots of clean, cool water also helps. It gives you something to put in your mouth and can help flush more nicotine out of the body. One of the most common reasons people give for not quitting smoking is that they have become comfortable with the feel of a cigarette in their hands. Some even say they just like to watch the smoke come out of their mouths. Lots of smokers go back to smoking because they had nothing to do with their hands. We are creatures of habit and this makes perfect sense. If all you just miss the touch of a cigarette, try and hold a real one. However, some find that simply handling a cigarette when trying to quit makes them want to smoke one. Eating regular meals to avoid getting hungry is also a good tip.</p>

Organic meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Many people believe that genetic engineering is dangerous, unpredictable, and can reduce the nutritional value of food. But the FDA has said that the amount of hormones used in commercial livestock isn&#8217;t enough to harm humans. As a result to be deemed organic, meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products must come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Typically organic fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs and meat products are produced within a 50-mile radius of their place of their final sale. Organic produce refers to vegetables that are grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Only naturally occurring fertilizer, like manure can be used to grow organic produce. While it is still better to eat non-organic vegetables than no vegetables at all, consumers are starting see the value in organic products. The natural and organic skin care product sector has seen a growth of thirty nine percent over the last year. The product formulations rely entirely on natural or naturally-derived ingredients. These products do not use any artificial preservatives. The FDA does not regulate skin care manufacturers, questionable ingredients often make their way into their formulas. Some of these products may claim to be all-natural, while still containing a slew of chemicals and toxins. As a consumer if a skin care product contains an ingredient that you are unsure about, write down it&#8217;s name and do a little research. If a product claims to be all natural, its ingredients should be easily recognizable as natural components. Scrutinize the first several listings in the product to be sure that they are the natural ingredients you are looking for. Dirt, dust, pollutants, and other environmental pollutants enter the body through the skin, providing a more significant gateway to your system, so it is important to be aware of what products contain. In response to a growing demand on the part of consumers, more and more organic foods and products are flooding the market. Even in mainstream supermarkets, certified organic foods and organic skin care products are available. Demand for organic production is increasing by at least 40 per cent each year.
